Introduction to The Optometry Blog

The Optometry Blog has been created by Flame Health and CLEARVIEW Training and is designed to be a central resource for people who are associated with the Optometry field to talk, discuss and comment on events within the sector and to benefit from a constantly evolving online education arena.

Jane studied optometry at City University as a mature student and spent her pre-registration year at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. She has worked extensively within The Hospital Eye Service, Independent and Multiple practice and now runs CLEARVIEW Training, an independent training company, based in the East Midlands.

Jane continues as a visiting lecturer at the department of Optometry, City University, London, where she has been for twelve years. She is a College of Optometrists Examiner, Assessor and is an elected member of the Council of the College of Optometrists.

Her specialist interests include Low Vision and she is the author of the Eye Essentials Text, Low Vision Assessment, published by Butterworth Heinemann.

David Gilbert is the training and development manager for Flame Health Ltd. He has in excess of six years recruitment experience across a variety of sectors and he now currently manages the internal and external training and development for Flame Health Ltd incorporating the recruitment of Optometrists, Dispensing Opticians, Practice Managers and other associated staff within the sector.

In 2001, he was part of the team that set up Flame Health Ltd with the intention of becoming a leading supplier to the health sector. Concentrating on the London area of the Uk initially, the success of this region fast tracked David into a management role where he has developed and trained a successful team of recruitment consultants which now operate across a wide variety of health sectors including Dentistry, Pharmaceutical, Pharmacy, Sales and executive.

David is also a CET accredited trainer within the Optometry sector and lectures across the country on a yearly basis.
